"In late 2003, researchers and occupational health activists from across the country came together to honor Dr. June Fisher on her 70th birthday and to celebrate her many achievements, particularly in using participatory action research (PAR) methods to improve the health and safety conditions of working people. Part of the observance was a symposium to recognize Fisher's contributions to the health and safety of health care workers and transit drivers in particular and the field of participatory research in general. The special section in this issue presents some presentations from the symposium."
