"In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, the spotlight turned to the often-overlooked short-term intra-EU movers—workers who cross borders within the European Union (EU) for temporary employment. This book delves into the multifaceted experiences of these mobile citizens, who, despite their theoretical advantages over third-country migrants, face significant challenges in their working lives.
Edited by Mehtap Akgüç and Wouter Zwysen, this volume brings together a multidisciplinary team of experts to explore the legal, economic, and sociological dimensions of short-term labour mobility within the EU. Through a combination of qualitative and quantitative analyses, the book examines the precarious conditions, legal ambiguities, and data deficiencies that characterize the lives of these workers. The book includes an overall view of the situation across Europe, and then delves deeper into the situation in Sweden, Germany, Spain, and the United Kingdom.
From the legal frameworks and labour market outcomes to the personal stories of digital nomads and seasonal workers, this book provides a comprehensive overview of the current state of short-term intra-EU mobility. It highlights the urgent need for better data collection and more robust regulations to ensure fair treatment and improved conditions for all EU movers."
