"Platform work is an umbrella concept covering a heterogeneous group of economic activities completed through a digital platform. As platform workers' rights are not enshrined in EU labour law, this increasingly leads to problems related to various aspects of their work and human development. To remedy this situation, the European Commission has submitted a proposal for a directive aimed at improving the working conditions of platform workers, clarifying their employment status, and supporting the sustainable growth of digital labour platforms in the EU. In the European Parliament, the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs is expected to vote on the rapporteur's draft report on 25 October 2022. The Council is considering a compromise put forward by the Czech Presidency, which covers the operational parts of the proposal. Second edition of a briefing originally drafted by Monika Kiss. The 'EU Legislation in Progress' briefings are updated at key stages throughout the legislative procedure."
