This study examined the high resolution computed tomography and lung function abnormalities in a group of 170 retired workers previously exposed to asbestos during maintenance operations in a nitrate fertilizer plant. The aim of the study was to characterize the effects of short, annual, high asbestos exposure on the pleura and pulmonary parenchyma. Results revealed a high prevalence of pleural plaques and mild parenchymal anomalies.
