The figure may be questionable, but a close look at the specific proposals seems to leave little doubt that much of the handout to business will come at a cost to society. These are not savings from waste, but could be paid for dearly from deep cuts in the guarantees that underwrite public health, environmental protection, consumer protection and other core public interests."
