"Die Umstellung auf eine Bioökonomie soll dem menschengemachten Klimawandel entgegenwirken. Für die Betriebe bedeutet dies eine veränderte stoffliche Basis der Produktion. Der Beitrag untersucht qualitativ die bislang nur randständig beachteten Folgen bioökonomischer Produktionsprozesse für die Arbeitenden. Mittels Expert*inneninterviews und Betriebsfallstudien aus der Landwirtschaft, Chemie und Pharmazie werden drei zentrale Herausforderungen im biobasierten Produktionsprozess herausgearbeitet, die sich direkt auf die Arbeitsbedingungen auswirken: Standardisierungsgrenzen durch die ‚natürlich-lebendige‘ Produktionsbasis, eine vergleichsweise schwache Marktposition und ein hoher Arbeits- und Fachkräftemangel. Für die Arbeitenden werden diese Herausforderungen spürbar durch hohe Wissens- und Flexibilitätsanforderungen, eine hohe Arbeitsintensität sowie eine Verstetigung und sogar Ausweitung atypischer Beschäftigungsverhältnisse – und zwar nicht nur für Akademiker*innen. Die Befunde zeigen, dass Ausbildungsberufe, atypische und geringqualifizierte Arbeit ein – bislang unterschätzter – Bestandteil der Bioökonomie sind."

"I consider the current state of pharmaceutical marketing vis-à-vis ethical and legal standards and advocate measures to improve it. There is abundant evidence of unethical or illicit marketing. It fuels growing concerns about undue corporate influence over pharmaceutical research, education, and consumption. The most extensive evidence of industry transgressions comes from the United States (US), where whistle-blowers are encouraged by financial rewards to help uncover illicit marketing and fraud. Outside the US increasing evidence of transgressions exists. Recently I have observed a range of new measures to align pharmaceutical marketing practices with ethical and legal standards. In the interest of public health, I highlight the need for additional and more profound reforms to ensure that information about medicines supports quality and resource-efficient care."

Etudes et enquêtes rigoureuses à l'appui, les auteurs démontent le mécanisme d'un “effet d'aubaine” ignoble en faveur de l'industrie pharmaceutique et proposent des solutions face à cette crise sanitaire."

"Arbeitspolitik ist immer zugleich Geschlechterpolitik. Gleichstellungspolitik kann daher nur dann erfolgreich sein, wenn sie – so die zentrale These dieses Artikels – strategisch als Bestandteil der Arbeitspolitik insgesamt konzipiert und gleichzeitig als ein relevantes Handlungsfeld betrieblicher und gewerkschaftlicher Interessenvertretungen verstanden wird. Wir gehen dabei von einem im Anschluss an Burawoy's Konzept der „politics of production“ weit gefassten Verständnis von Arbeitspolitik aus, sodass die Verwobenheit der betrieblichen mit der außerbetrieblichen Ebene („relations in/of production“) in den Blick kommt. Am Beispiel von Fallstudien aus der Pharma- und Biotechnologie wird gezeigt, welche Wirkung die Strukturierung von Branchenfeldern, die Vereinbarkeitspolitik und das individualisierte (und damit scheinbar geschlechtsneutrale) Leistungsregime auf die Geschlechterpolitik in Unternehmen hat. Insbesondere Bourdieus Konzept der symbolischen Gewalt trägt zu Einsichten bei, wie sich Ungleichheitsprozesse und geschlechtliche Ausschlüsse unter dem Deckmantel von „Egalitätsmythen“ bzw.einer weitreichenden De-Thematisierung von Geschlecht weiter reproduzieren."

"Studies examining the relationship between lean manufacturing and employee well-being to date have yielded contradictory findings, whereby positive, negative and contingent effects have all been demonstrated. These inconsistencies are partly attributed to the absence of an appropriate model that captures the complex job design associated with this context and its relationship with employee outcomes. In this paper, we propose and test a model of job design under lean manufacturing using the job demands-resources framework to capture the distinct motivational and health-impairing potential of this context. Data from 200 employees from a multinational pharmaceutical manufacturer with extensive levels of long-term lean usage supported the direct and interactive effects of lean-specific resources and demands in the prediction of employee work engagement and exhaustion. The findings encourage lean users to minimise the health-impairing potential of its demands and utilise their motivational potential by complementing them with the appropriate job resources necessary to cope with a high-involvement, fast-paced work environment."

"Forschungsintensive Branchen wie die Pharmaindustrie stehen aufgrund ihrer guten Wachstumsperspektiven im Fokus der Regionalpolitik. Die Bedeutung der Pharmabranche für die regionalen Industriestandorte ist in Deutschland unterschiedlich stark ausgeprägt. Zudem weichen in den Regionen die Qualifikationsstrukturen in der Pharmaindustrie voneinander ab. Die Pharmaindustrie eignet sich damit besonders für die Analyse des Einflusses von Standortfaktoren wie Industriestruktur und Humankapital auf die regionale Bedeutung und Qualifikationsstruktur wissensintensiver Branchen. Die Studie gibt erste Hinweise darauf, dass Pharmaunternehmen bei ihrer Standortwahl sowohl die Industriestruktur als auch den Bildungsstand der ansässigen Bevölkerung berücksichtigen. Bei der Ausgestaltung der regionalen Beschäftigungsstruktur scheinen dagegen andere Faktoren bedeutender zu sein."

"Decisions made by the food, tobacco, alcohol, pharmaceutical, gun, and automobile industries have a greater impact on today's health than the decisions of scientists and policymakers. As the collective influence of corporations has grown, governments around the world have stepped back from their responsibility to protect public health by privatizing key services, weakening regulations, and cutting funding for consumer and environmental protection. "Pay coordination is a subject of continuing interest in industrial relations, especially achieved through networks and as a feature of social pacts. Yet few empirical studies have examined the issue in a systematic way. This article examines how pay was coordinated to contain second-tier bargaining and pay drift under Irish social partnership at the peak of the Irish economic boom in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Drawing on case studies of collective bargaining in the building construction and pharmaceutical manufacturing sectors, the article examines the relevance of a series of mechanisms of network-based pay coordination in containing second-tier pay bargaining and potential economy-wide pay drift.
