"Harrowing statistics regarding worker psychological health show that 12 billion working days are lost per annum due to workers' anxiety and depression, costing nearly US$1 trillion globally (World Health Organization [WHO], 2022). The European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OHSA, 2022) OSH Pulse survey found that 27% of workers experience stress, anxiety, or depression that is caused or exacerbated by psychosocial risks such as work intensity and unsociable working hours. Further, the latest European Survey of Enterprises on New and Emerging Risks (ESENER, 2024) across 30 countries established that the trends for work-related psychosocial risks have not improved much since 2019. Findings show 43% of workers face long or irregular working hours and 19% experience job insecurity."
