"En 1973, l'Association Internationale d'Ergonomie (International Ergonomics Association – IEA), représentant actuellement quelques 19.000 scientifiques et praticiens spécialisés en ergonomie dans le monde, a proposé à l'ISO d'élaborer des normes dans le domaine de l'ergonomie (Parsons et Shackel, 1995). En 1974, l'ISO a créé le TC 159 “Ergonomie” pour démarrer ce processus et a publié la première norme d'ergonomie en 1981 : l'ISO 6385:1981 Principes ergonomiques de la conception des systèmes de travail.Dans les années qui suivirent, le nombre de normes a rapidement augmenté. Aujourd'hui, l'ISO et le CEN ont publié plus de 150 normes ergonomiques sur une variété de sujets. Les sujets les mieux traités sont la sécurité des machines, la conception du lieu de travail et des équipements, l'information visuelle et l'informatique. ..."

"This study is the first academic analysis of national standardization organizations. The growing importance of consortia, and the shift from standardization at the national level towards the regional or international level, have prompted a discussion about the importance of national standardization organizations. Against this background, Henk de Vries analyzes the role of these organizations.
The book aims to provide both practitioners and scholars with a better understanding of standardization. The introductory general chapters concern the concept of standards and standardization and depict the relevant organizations with special attention to the national standardization organizations and their portfolio of services.
