"The author describes general conditions for agriculture in Hungary, provides a concise history of agriculture in Hungary, and analyses the results of the first years of transition since the end of the 1980ies. Land reform, restructuring of co-operatives and privatisation, reduced employment capacities in agriculture, decreasing yields, fewer animals and stagnation seem to characterize the actual situation. At the end the author describes perspectives for agriculture and accession to the European Union, conditions and opportunities and the remaining tasks for Hungarian agricultural policy."
