"Mentoring is about career progress and it depends on the positive partnership of two people - a junior partner, the protegee, who wants to get ahead, and a senior partner, the mentor, who is higher up in the company and wants to help the junior find her way. Many firms are implementing mentoring schemes, with a view to employee morale and improved productivity. Women of all ages and at all career stages can be helped in this way, by having their paths eased and being instructed, guided and informed about the company and the way in which in works. This book discusses networks and mentoring schemes. It offers advice on finding and using a mentor, and on how having a mentor can benefit job skills and self-confidence. It also explains how to become a mentor, the qualities needed and the potential problems, and how schemes can be set up in firms and colleges. Case histories are included, together with quotes from mentors, their protegees and employers."
