OuiShare

"Together with the CSCP Institute (Germany), Columbia Business School (US), Akatu Institute (Brazil) and Shareable (US), OuiShare published a report with the frame of understanding the different business models, its enablers and success factors as well as the barriers to identify opportunities for this sector to thrive. The basis for the report is an empirical survey of 110 Sharing Economy initiatives active in the areas of service, goods, mobility and space, following business models of P2P, B2B, B2C and C2B interactions – in both: the profit & non-profit sector. Furthermore six expert-interviews were conducted to support the analysis and findings.

Looking at who is actally using this alternative model of consumtion, the study finds that today Sharing Economy initiatives focus mainly on tech-savy (92 % use web- and/or mobile applications) millenials (less than 50 % target people 50+) in urban environments. The value propositions of the initiatives show that the aim is to create value beyond economic aspects focussing mainly on the social interaction. While 94 % aim to create positive social and/or environmental impact, only 25 % actually measured it – a tendency that was already pointed out in a study from 2013. Changing consumer habits and establishing critical mass are still perceived as the main challenges – for 70 % creating trust constitutes a challenge. While most of the initiatives see scaling up as a way to increase their impact (mostly through expansion across countries), the financial restrictions pose a barrier to its attainment. That the Sharing Economy scene is highly collaborative can be derived from the fact that the initiatives are highly interested in partnerships with other initiatives of the sector, traditional players and public administrations."

EUROGIP

"The new EUROGIP report looks at legislation and preventive action taken in the event of hot work or heatwaves in a number of countries:
Europe: Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, Malta, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
Worldwide: Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Canada, South Africa, the Gulf States, China, Japan and South Korea.
The increasingly frequent and intense heatwaves linked to global warming can have serious, even fatal, health consequences for workers. Protecting their health and safety is therefore a major challenge.
EUROGIP offers an overview of the various measures (legislation, collective agreements, tools, campaigns, etc.) adopted in the countries studied to meet this challenge. The first question asked is whether there is a maximum working temperature.
This report focuses in particular on jobs carried out outdoors and therefore particularly affected by heat waves."

Human Resource Management Journal - n° Early view -

Human Resource Management Journal

"The expansion of remote working arrangements has required managers to adjust their approach to managing performance, as they transition from in-person to technology-mediated tools and practices. Past research has identified negative worker impacts associated with intensified digital monitoring and discipline-based coaching. However, few studies have investigated the antecedents of more worker-friendly arrangements. This paper examines the role of collective worker voice in shaping remote work performance management choices, based on a comparative study of telecommunications call centers in Canada, the United States, and Germany. Findings suggest that strong collective voice, especially when backed by institutional power, fosters a balanced approach to remote performance management by constraining the intensity of electronic performance monitoring and use of disciplinary practices, as well as by supporting more developmental coaching."

"This paper presents evidence on the number of jobs in global supply chains for 40 countries, and explores in detail whose demand these jobs depend on in terms of countries and sectors. The paper documents the rapidly increasing number of jobs supported by production linkages between emerging economies, and provides evidence on the so-called servicification of manufacturing. Wage shares drop when a sector increases its participation in global supply chains as a supplier."

ILO

"The analysis seeks to evaluate the potential that expansionary fiscal policy can have – and under which conditions – to ameliorate, and restrictive fiscal policy to worsen, conditions in youth labour markets. Through a panel econometric model applied to European countries, the analysis finds that a fully countercyclical fiscal policy is an instrument well-suited to ameliorating youth unemployment."
