Scandinavian Journal of Work, Environment and Health

"This review article discusses various types of incentives for promoting occupational safety and health (OSH) in light of economic theory and evidence from research. Governments can subsidize employers' investments in OSH with subsidies and tax structures. These incentives are successful only if the demand for OSH responds to the change in the price of OSH investments and if the suppliers of OSH are able to increase their production smoothly, failing which the subsidy will only lead to higher prices for OSH goods. Both public and private insurance companies can differentiate insurance premiums according to past claims. There is evidence that this can effectively lower the frequency of claims, but not the severity of cases. Policy implications of these and other findings are discussed."

Office for Official Publications of the European Communities

"This publication contains real examples of how enterprises and organisations from across the European Union have taken actions to prevent risks to young workers and to educate students about health and safety at work. The cases should inspire owners, managers, workers and those involved in education about what could be achieved in their workplaces or educational institutions. "

European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions

"This report looks at industrial relations practices regarding health and safety strategies in the European steel sector. The findings are based on desk research and a comparative analysis of company practices in three company case studies: ArcelorMittal in France, Rautaruukki in Finland and Salzgitter AG in Germany. The report offers a transversal analysis, examining the main findings on the role of social dialogue and company practices regarding prevention while also highlighting some specific company and sectoral features triggering psychosocial risks and their prevention. Each of the three case studies presents the company's strategies for assessing and preventing psychosocial issues at work and examines the involvement of the workers or workers' representatives. Two of the three case studies concern company pilot sites involved in addressing psychosocial constraints at work."

"This book stemming from the exhibition ‘The art of preventive health and safety in Europe' presents historical and vintage posters from various European countries showing how graphic design has been used to promote health and safety prevention in more than 20 different cultural environments.
The publication shows how workplace health and safety messages and slogans have evolved, from initially blaming individual workers for accidents and mistakes towards the fostering of a more proactive approach to prevention. The work demonstrates also the historical importance of occupational health and safety for the European trade union movement. It thus presents the risks gradually identified by workers as stepping stones on the road to conceiving prevention, charting how the mobilisation of a collective intelligence served to challenge the traditional division of labour.
Viewed from an artistic angle, meanwhile, the publication offers a journey through the art of the 20th century and across key national artistic and graphic movements, with the incorporation of photography, photomontage, geometric abstraction and rigorous typographic treatment."

Office for Official Publications of the European Communities

"The report is aimed at practitioners and intermediaries within the educational system, and policymakers and social partners both at Member State and EU level. It consists of three main parts: a description of good practice; an analysis of the key elements of a successful mainstreaming process illustrated within a model; and a road map for the future development of a coherent strategy to mainstream occupational safety and health into education at European level.
There is a general description of 36 good practice examples from Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Spain, France, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Austria, Finland, Sweden and the United Kingdom. Of these, 14 examples are presented in detail as case studies. The report covers all stages of education until the end of compulsory education: kindergarten, primary and secondary school, vocational education. As there is such a broad range of examples at different levels, with different organisations initiating the projects and different partners involved, the examples are divided according to three approaches: a ‘holistic' approach, a curriculum approach and a workplace approach."

"Este catálogo contém alguns dos cartazes que selecionamos para a exposição The Art of Preventive Health and Safety in Europe. ..."
