"This third edition of Key figures on European business provides visualisations and innovative data presentations supported by concise texts and can be viewed as an introduction to European business statistics. The publication presents a selection of key business statistics indicators for the European Union, the Member States and the EFTA countries. It starts with an overview, followed by more detailed analyses on four specific parts of the business economy — industry, construction, distributive trades and other non-financial services, and ends with a chapter on tourism. Each of these chapters focusing on different parts of the business economy starts with an overview of the economic structure and continues with information on annual developments through to 2022."

"Work mediated by online platforms is one of the (growing) types of non-standard work that raises several policy challenges. While digital platform employment and work activities may be attractive to some workers as they constitute additional sources of income and generally display flexible working conditions, they also raise issues in terms of their quality, and of the legal rights and work protections available to workers engaged in them. Major concerns about digital platform employment relate to ensuring job and income security, access to social protection, career development, training, rights to collective bargaining, protection against algorithmic discrimination and opaque management practices, increased risk of job strain including mental health impacts, as well as concerns about tax avoidance, distortions to product market competition, social dumping and “race-to-the-bottom” practices."

"Sustainable development is firmly anchored in the European Treaties and has been at the heart of European policy for a long time. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted by the UN General Assembly in September 2015, have given a new impetus to global efforts for achieving sustainable development. The EU is fully committed to playing an active role in helping to maximise progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals. This publication is the fifth of Eurostat's regular reports monitoring progress towards the SDGs in an EU context. The analysis in this publication builds on the EU SDG indicator set, developed in cooperation with a large number of stakeholders. The indicator set comprises 102 indicators and is structured along the 17 SDGs. For each SDG, it focuses on aspects that are relevant from an EU perspective. The monitoring report provides a statistical presentation of trends relating to the SDGs in the EU over the past five years (‘short-term') and, when sufficient data are available, over the past 15 years (‘long-term'). The indicator trends are described on the basis of a set of specific quantitative rules. This 2021 edition also shows some of the early impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic that are visible in Eurostat's official statistics."

"Migrant integration statistics presents different aspects of the European Union (EU) statistics on the integration of migrants. The successful integration of migrants into society in the host country is key to maximising the opportunities of legal migration and making the most of the contributions that immigration can make to EU development. In this publication, migrant integration is measured in terms of employment, education, social inclusion and active citizenship in the host country.

The analysis is based on statistics from the Labour Force Survey (EU-LFS), statistics on income and living conditions (EU-SILC) and Eurostat's migration statistics. Data are presented for the European Union and its Member States, the United Kingdom as well as for the EFTA countries."

"This publication provides a statistical portrait of the European Union in relation to the rest of the world. It presents a broad range of indicators for the EU and the non-EU members of the Group of Twenty (G20). It is structured into three parts: people and society — population, health, education and training, the labour market, living conditions and digital society; economy and business — economy and finance, international trade, business, and science, technology and the digital society; environment and natural resources — transport, energy, the environment, and agriculture, forestry and fi sheries. The publication complements information found in two of Eurostat's main publications, Key fi gures on Europe and the Regional yearbook, as well as the hundreds of articles available from Eurostat's Statistics Explained web portal. It may be viewed as an introduction to European and international statistics and provides a starting point for those who wish to explore the wide range of data that are freely available from a variety of international organisations and on Eurostat's website. The EU in the world is published every second year with annual data. This 2020 edition only describes the situation in the EU and the G20 Member States up to the year 2018 at the most. As a consequence, first findings of any COVID-19 related implications will only be possible in the 2022 edition of The EU in the world, with the full scale of the crisis being revealed in later editions only."
