"Although Indian trade unionists support the notion of labor rights as human rights, they oppose efforts to incorporate into the World Trade Organization any standards set and controlled by transnational corporations in northern governments. Arbitrary WTO standards can contribute to massive unemployment and would inevitably contribute to protectionism. Instead, the author argues for the need to protect worker rights without the threat of trade sanctions."
