"The Member States of the European Union have agreed to promote the common goals of economic growth, quality of jobs and comprehensive social protection. In this context, income security and participation on the labour market are key factors. To achieve these goals, the Member States apply strategies that share both similarities and differences. This report compares the various social models of the 27 Member States by systematically examining existing systems of social protection, as well as ongoing social reforms.
This report offers a first step towards developing a comprehensive institutional framework for the analysis of social protection and social inclusion in the EU. It complements the efforts being made by the European Commission and the Member States to promote the systematic collection of information on indicators relating to, among other things, employment and social inclusion."
