"This publication presents the proceedings of the European Conference 'Globalisation, Ecology and Economy - Bridging Worlds' (24-26 November 1999, Tilburg, the Netherlands). The proceedings reflect the current understanding among stakeholders regarding the relationship between globalisation, ecology and economy in Europe.
The process of globalisation is advancing fast, and has an important impact on the regional level. The conference demonstrated forcefully that there is a common interest of the economic and financial sectors, the public sector and the biodiversity sector to explore the positive synergies between ecology and economy in the process of globalisation, to attain a sustainable Europe.
The conference resulted in a strong message: the Tilburg Manifesto, which is included in this proceedings. The conference organisers are encouraged by the very positive feedback received during and after the conference and are pleased with the follow-up actions, already underway. ..."
