"The situation with regard to economic data is complicated by the upheavals in Albania during 1997, indicating that the most recent complete figures are still those relating to 1995. In the absence of reliable hard data, it is consequently impossible to establish and sustain sound arguments for what is now objectively going on in the economy as a whole, still less in particular sub-sectors. This article therefore provides a retrospective analysis of the situation in agriculture in the middle of the decade, together with some general pointers as to how things are likely to have changed in the meantime."
