"This article analyses the coal mining industry in Romania. The first part offers a general overview of the situation in Romania from a political, economic and social perspective; the second part analyses the key factors that influence the coal mining industry; while the last speculates on possible future scenarios, while offering some final conclusions. Events related to the coal miners, such as the crisis of January 1999, received extensive coverage in the national and international media, but few of the materials went so deep as to seize and analyse the underlying causes, hidden beyond the puzzle of spectacular facts. This article aims towards being a contribution in this direction."
