"This publication summarizes the knowledge and experience accumulated during the six-year cooperation launched in 2004 by the European Metalworkers' Federation (EMF) and the European Trade Union Institute (ETUI) with the intention of carrying out joint cross-border projects to improve the working conditions of European metal industry workers. EMF and ETUI agreed to develop their cooperation in the lift sector, which is still characterized by the unsatisfactory conditions of the workers involved in the production and installation of new lifts as well as in the maintenance and modernisation of existing ones. The work carried out by EMF and ETUI is presented so as to inspire similar initiatives: it includes recommendations for bringing workers' experience into legislation and standardization regulating machinery and lifts."
