"The occupational exposure limit value for styrene has been reduced three times since it was first introduced in 1975. These limit value changes and the Directions on Reinforced Ester Plastic (the AP Directions) led to a clean-up of the poor work environment conditions prevailing in the composites industry. Small, underfunded firms with adverse occupational safety and health conditions went out of business. In connection with the exposure limit value changes, the industry flagged up foreign start-ups and an increase in closures owing to difficulty in measuring up to the new limit values. ..."
