"In the European Year of Youth, the 2022 annual edition of the Employment and Social Developments in Europe (ESDE) review, titled “Young Europeans: employment and social challenges ahead”, provides key evidence on the situation of young people in the COVID-19 recovery and in the context of the twin transitions. The analysis shows that, relative to the general population, young people's labour market and social situation has been more heavily impacted by the pandemic and their recovery has been slower. This outcome is linked to their more vulnerable and precarious labour market position, which can be exacerbated by individual circumstances such as a disadvantaged socio-economic background. The 2022 ESDE highlights the importance of education and skills, coupled by additional active labour market and social policy interventions to support young people's successful integration into the labour market and social inclusion."
