"The article presents cases of silicosis among Brazilian stone polishing and mining workers who began employment as children, anywhere from 10 to 17 years of age. The design is that of a case series, with medical follow up via a surveillance program that included medical and occupational histories, chest radiography interpreted according to the ILO Classification and spirometry. The findings highlights a Public Health problem to be dealt with by the implementation of public policies to improve working conditions and make sure children and teenagers are kept away from hazardous work."
