"Applying Bourdieu's theory of social reproduction, this article deals with workers' family-of-origin class position and the associated socialisation processes as systematic influencers of individual work orientations and commitment to work. It draws on a study of young blue-collar workers in Austria to argue how growing up in a working-class setting shapes dispositions that contribute to the commitment to manual work. The results show how these dispositions influence the assessment of work and, in particular, support a positive relationship with manual work and physical activity."

"Within the service sector, the software industry has been among the prime movers in the process of offshoring work to new destinations. This is facilitated by the immaterial character of the products and their components and by the industry's inclination to use new technical opportunities for its own purposes as well. This paper investigates practices of virtual cooperation and team work in small and start-up software companies based in Austria. Evidence indicates that because of their niche strategies and the related conditions of their national context, these companies often depend on international cooperation which, in turn, often takes on a ‘virtual' form."

While evaluations of the successes of public services have focused on prices and efficiency, much less attention has been paid to the impacts of liberalization and privatization on employment, labor relations, and working conditions.
