"There must be reform at every level to achieve the multitude of benefits gained from active ageing in the workplace. This is the key element debated in the final report of the EPC-Bertelsmann Stiftung project entitled ‘Creating Second Career Labour Markets- Towards more Employment Opportunities for Older Workers'. By giving a detailed analysis of the many barriers that already exist to employment for older citizens, the authors - Eric Thode and Laura Naegele of Bertelsmann Stiftung and Claire Dhéret of EPC - give policy recommendations to advise on a positive transition forward. Their main arguments are based around the concentrated efforts required by all relevant stakeholders and the dismissal of the popular notion that it is a positive policy to push older workers out of labour to free up jobs for a younger generation."

"The European Commission's AI strategy was released just a few short weeks before the global pandemic hit Europe. In her policy brief, Maarja Kask argues that AI can only be expected to help us through this pandemic and on a path of economic recovery if the upcoming legislation resolves the issues evident in the white paper. Not only does the Commission need to explain what it means when it talks about AI, but also be clear about its investment plan. The member states will also need to pull their weight when it comes to funding for the strategy to succeed."

"Technological capabilities vary substantially across European regions. Combining these diverse sets of capabilities is crucial to develop the technologies necessary to master the green and digital transition. However, collaboration between regions is sparse today. To increase inter-regional cooperation, linkages that spur the development of green and digital technologies must be identified. In this study, we provide an overview of inter-regional collaborations already in place and map new opportunities for these between regions. A special emphasis is placed on potential collaborations between economically leading and lagging regions. Our results provide new impetus for policy designs that strengthen regional innovation capabilities and cohesion across Europe's regions."
