"Here is an accessible, up-to-date guide to event history analysis for researchers and advanced students in the social sciences. The foundational principles of event history analysis are discussed and ample examples are estimated and interpreted using standard statistical packages, such as STATA and S-Plus. Recent and critical innovations in diagnostics are discussed, including testing the proportional hazards assumption, identifying outliers, and assessing model fit. The treatment of complicated events includes coverage of unobserved heterogeneity, repeated events, and competing risks models. The authors point out common problems in the analysis of time-to-event data in the social sciences and make recommendations regarding the implementation of duration modeling methods. "

"The book is designed around human resource strategies, illustrated through case studies, which explain the effectiveness of ergonomics on productivity and profit, both for the employees (a safer and more congenial working environment) and the enterprises (better return on investment). The free software that accompanies this book is a versatile programme for the reader to use in their workplace. In an easy to follow, step-by-step process, the user is asked to enter workplace details and the proposed intervention cost and the programme will calculate the obtained savings and pay-back period. Also included with the software are many of the worked examples from the case studies."

"Defines and describes proposed histological groups for 15 common cancers and gives the appropriate International Classification of Diseases for Oncology (ICD-O) morphology codes. Noting that the characteristics of certain cancers are better defined by a combination of tumour site and morphology, the report responds to the lack of a generally agreed scheme for subdividing cancers at a particular site into histological groups for use in clinical and epidemiological studies. With this need in mind, the report presents groupings of morphology codes for selected cancers in order to facilitate analysis of cancer registry data by histological type and to enable comparisons between datasets from different registries."
