Jedoch entwickelte sich außerhalb dieser Häfen, in Vlissingen, einem neuen Hafen nahe bei Antwerpen, ein „marktförmiges“ Arbeitskontrollregime für Logistikarbeiter*innen. Vlissingen ist insbesondere für den Umschlag von verderblichen Früchten wie Bananen wichtig geworden, deren Handhabung ein hohes Maß an Flexibilität erfordert. Der Fall Vlissingen wird als Beispiel für Ausweichstrategien interpretiert, wenn der Abbau von Schutzrechten der Beschäftigten auf den Widerstand gut organisierter und konfliktbereiter Belegschaften stößt."

La croissance, la technologie et un modèle économique en mutation ont fait que ces ports se sont éloignés des villes auxquelles ils étaient autrefois rattachés. L'histoire individuelle des ports d'Anvers, Bruxelles, Gand, Liège, Ostende et Zeebruges est replacée dans un contexte plus large par Patrick Verhoeven."

"As the 20th anniversary of the 1995–1998 Liverpool Dockers' Strike approaches, this case of industrial action should not be dismissed as a reminder of yet another nail in the coffin of organised labour. Rather, this event needs to be viewed more optimistically in hindsight as a symbol that working-class consciousness and systems of solidarity had not vanished entirely from Britain after the crushing collapse of domestic manufacturing and the fall of the miners in 1985. Indeed, the Liverpool dockers invented a fresh campaign of industrial action at this time, led more from the ‘bottom-up' than most other labour protests in the past. Fuelled by a cognisant awareness of both community and workplace experience within the context of popular historical memory, this industrial action played significant roles in reconfiguring and adapting solidarity in this new era of rentier, global capitalism. It is appropriate we recall working-class militancy in a city whose own historical narrative is often described as ‘exceptional' when one reflects upon Liverpool's long entrenched culture of opposition."

"The proposal for a regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council establishing a framework on market access to port services and financial transparency of ports - Com(2013) 296 final, May 23rd 2013 - is oriented to increase the quality and the efficiency of European ports. The improvement of the quality and efficiency of port services should contribute to a more favourable climate to investments in ports and to a reduction of costs for transport users: this improvement should increase employment levels and quality in ports and logistical networks too. Principle of fair and open competition and freedom to provide services represent the legal basis of the proposal. The current regulation of Italian (labour) port market (Act No. 84 of 1994) isn't in compliance with these two principles: the legitimate of the monopoly of the agency of port temporary work is uncertain regarding the artt. 102 and 106 Tfue. The legal regulation of the unifying dockers collective agreement (Act No. 84 of 1994, Art. 17, Par. 13) contains a clause for minimum wages: a clause like the one declared by the Ecj (in the Rüffert Case) illegitimate in opposition to the principle of freedom to provide services."

"We investigate how individual workers and local labour markets adjust over a long time period to a discrete and plausibly exogenous technological shock, namely the introduction of containerisation in the UK port industry. This technology, which was introduced rapidly between the mid-1960s and the late-1970s, had dramatic consequences for specific occupations within the port industry. Using longitudinal micro-census data we follow dock-workers over a 40 year period and examine the long-run consequences of containerisation for patterns of employment, migration and mortality. The results show that the job guarantees protected dock-workers' employment until their removal in 1989. A matched comparison of workers in comparable unskilled occupations reveals that, even after job guarantees were removed, dock-workers did not fare worse than the comparison group in terms of their labour market outcomes. Our results suggest that job guarantees may significantly reduce the cost to workers of sudden technological change, albeit at a significant cost to the industry."

LES DOCKERS DE LIVERPOOL Un récit de morale contemporaine.
En 1997 à Liverpool, 500 dockers, par solidarité, refusent de franchir un piquet de grève. Très vite, la Mersey Docks and Harbour Company profite de l'aubaine et installe un retour au travail précaire, comme au temps où les dockers étaient recrutés au jour le jour, à la tête du client. Plus d'un an sans salaire, vivant de leurs économies et de la solidarité internationale, le combat des dockers est une course de fond, menée autant par les femmes que par leurs maris, loin de l'imagerie ouvrière classique."

"Ils sont un peu moins de 200 à décharger chaque jour les milliers de tonnes de marchandises qui arrivent par bateau sur le port français de Nantes/Saint-Nazaire. Leur travail, rude, comprend aujourd'hui moins de risques physiques. Mais les dockers sont désormais exposés aux très nombreuses molécules chimiques que charrient les marchandises. Las de voir leurs amis fauchés par des cancers, ils ont impulsé un programme de recherche qui retrace leurs parcours toxiques."
