"The basic aim of this paper is to add some thoughts to the current discussion on minority nationalism. In such a historical period, when more divided countries exist than ever before, ethnic minorities are tending to claim nation states for their own. Their success depends on particular political circumstances, which vary from one region to another. This paper focuses on Hungarian minority nationalism in central and eastern Europe, but tries at the same time to put the phenomenon into a wider framework. The widely-studied phenomenon of nationalism tends to appear in particular forms in central and eastern Europe. The proper understanding of the varying perceptions of nationalist ideas can promote the establishment of peaceful agreement between nations and countries in the region."
