Labour Market Trends - vol. 111 n° 8 -
"This article presents annual estimates of jobs density data for unitary and local authorities for 2000 and 2001. For 2001, there were just over 0.8 jobs per person of working age in the United Kingdom. For unitary and local authorities, this varied between 61.9 (City of London) and 0.4 (East Renfrewshire).Jobs density is the number of filled jobs in an area divided by the number of working age people resident in that area. It is an indicator of labour demand, along with vacancies. It forms part of a local area labour market framework with indicators of labour supply such as employment rates, unemployment rates and claimant count proportions as well as working age benefits and labour costs. The article analyses the main variations in the data and describes the indicator's use alongside other indicators. It also describes the data sources and gives guidance for users, and finally sets out plans for future developments related to jobs densities."
