"Euroscepticism is judged in the Nordic region in terms of the acceptance by various groups of particular levels of integration. The Danish electorate has been keen to defend the opt‐outs from the EU; Norwegian voters have rejected membership of the EC and the EU; Finland is, perhaps, the most accepting of the Nordic EU members; while Sweden has had reservations over major policy issues. The existence of scepticism can be explained in terms both of a reflection of interests within each country and also of identity and norms. The balance between these factors helps determine the strength in each state of scepticism to the European integration process."
