Reachstory. An account of political achievement
“Reachstory is exactly like everything else which revolves around the Reach Regulations - unique. In fact, I believe that no MEP before Guido Sacconi has ever undertaken such a daunting task. I am, of course, referring to the enormous success of the approval of the Regulations on chemical substances which has been defined by President Josep Borrel as "one of the greatest workshops in European legal history.'' I found his "Reachstory" absolutely unique.
This literary endeavour touched me deeply, and I believe I can speak for many of my colleagues. Sacconi helps us relive some memorable months with great sensitivity and irony. This story is set against a backdrop marked by a profound moment of crisis for the European Union. Nevertheless, I firmly believe it to be primarily a crisis of govenunents and of the Council of Ministers, paralysed by its inability to find a way out, a new drive to endow Europe with the political personality it needs to face vast challenges on a global scale. The European Parliament, which represents the citizens and is the guarantor of European citizenship and its values, stands out against this desolating backdrop,· capable of working night and day with great passion, seriousness, and obstinacy under under the guidance of our outstanding rapporteur. It has sent a clear message: Europe is here, it is alive and it is capable of producing forward-thinking results to protect the future of our plane.
